How does ShoeCompass work?

ShoeCompass uses AI to act as your personal shoe concierge. Describe what you're looking for — an occasion, activity, style, or budget — and it recommends the best options with links to buy.

Are the product links affiliate links?

Why should I create an account?

Creating an account lets you save your shoe size, width, foot conditions, and gender preference so ShoeCompass can give you more personalized recommendations every time.

Can I shop for someone else?

Absolutely. Just describe who you're shopping for in your message — "I'm looking for men's dress shoes for my husband" — and ShoeCompass will tailor recommendations accordingly. For the cleanest experience, tap the 🛍 Shopping for someone else button below the gender bar — this temporarily sets aside your saved profile so your size and preferences don't interfere with their recommendations.

How do I delete my account?

Tap the account icon → open your profile → scroll to the bottom and tap "Delete My Account." This permanently removes all your data.

How do I unsubscribe from emails?

Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click and you're off the list.

Can I upload a photo of an outfit or shoe?

Yes. Tap the photo icon in the message bar and select an image of an outfit or a pair of shoes. ShoeCompass will identify what you're wearing and recommend shoes that match the look, or suggest outfits if you upload a shoe. Photos are processed in real time and are never stored on our servers.

Is my data secure?

Yes. Your account and profile are stored securely via Supabase. Conversation messages and uploaded photos are never permanently stored — they're used to generate your response and discarded. We never sell your data. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Does ShoeCompass use cookies?

We use local storage to keep you logged in, and with your consent we use Google Analytics to collect anonymized geographic usage data. No advertising cookies are used. You can accept or decline analytics on your first visit, and your choice is remembered. Declining has no effect on the app experience.

What about ShoeCompass's environmental impact?

We'll be honest: AI has a real carbon cost. A single query generates roughly 2–3g of CO₂. We don't think that's something to hide. But here's the other side of that equation — returning a pair of shoes costs an estimated 14,000g of CO₂ when you account for reverse logistics, repackaging, and waste. If ShoeCompass helps you find the right shoe the first time, one prevented return offsets thousands of queries. The shoe industry's return rate hovers around 30–40% for online purchases. Better recommendations aren't just convenient — they're a meaningful lever. We also run on AWS infrastructure, which matched 100% of its electricity consumption with renewable energy in 2025. We take the impact seriously, and we think transparency is the starting point.
